a little About me

Gunz, is a Cuban-American artist born and raised in Miami, Florida. His art is deeply influenced by Miami's Art Deco and His Cancer Water Sign.

His parents fled communism in Cuba in search of freedom and opportunity. When they arrived in Miami, English was the dominant language foreign and unfamiliar.  HIs father and uncle once told me about being approached by a police officer at the Pizza Palace and unable to understand a word being said, responding only with nervous laughter. It was a moment that captured both fear and innocence in a new world. His mother worked multiple jobs while raising the family, carrying the weight of sacrifice and perseverance with quiet strength while her husband was a sick man, and best father he could have.

He was introduced to art and sports at an early age, where he found both expression and refuge. His teacher, Fran, became his mentor and remains in spirit today. Though she is no longer teaching, He often find himself working through a piece as if she was standing beside me approving, questioning, and guiding me the way she taught me to see, rework, and trust the process.

Creativity and legacy run deep in his bloodline. His great-grandmother raced and owned thoroughbred horses in Cuba, and his grandfather became a successful thoroughbred owner and raced in the United States. While Fidel Castro’s regime altered the course of countless lives including his family’s his connection to horses, movement, and beauty endures. He continue to love horses and watching them race and is drawn to their strength, grace, and spirit qualities that subtly surface throughout his work.

His father worked for McArthur dairy and would take me with him to deliver milk in Dade County at that time he delivered to all the Winn-Dixies Supermarkets in the area by himself. One day he became ill during his youth and that experience shaped his teenage years and early adulthood, teaching me responsibility, empathy, and resilience at an early age. 

That period continues to inform the emotional depth and quiet intensity present in his paintings. Through paintings, he explore emotion, movement, faith, and the stories we carry. 

In 2018 he was selected and recognized by the RAW Artists Organization, as Natural-Born Visual Artist.
